What Types of Sedation Do We Offer?

Conscious Sedation

The next level of sedation is oral sedation, which does not require needles. Our office can offer several kinds of medication for you to take in the form of a pill. Oral sedation is slightly stronger than nitrous oxide, so a responsible adult must take you to and from the appointment. Our doctors will decide if this form of sedation is right for you based on your medical history.

Nitrous oxide (commonly called laughing gas) has been the primary way doctors have helped relieve patients from anxiety. The gas is administered through a face mask, and you inhale it through your nose. As the anesthetic begins to work, you’ll feel a bit groggy and desensitized. Patients who choose nitrous oxide for sedation can resume normal daily activities when the treatment is finished. We offer this when treating kids

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry, also known as "sleep dentistry," refers to the use of medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It's an excellent option for individuals who feel anxious or fearful about visiting the dentist. At Zsambeky, Chaney & Associates, Dr. Jonathan Zsambeky offers various levels of sedation to ensure your comfort during any dental procedure.

Is Sedation Dentistry safe?

Absolutely. Sedation dentistry is safe when administered by trained professionals like Dr. Jonathan Zsambeky. We carefully monitor your vital signs throughout the procedure to ensure your safety. It's important to share your complete medical history with us, including any medications you're currently taking, so we can determine the best sedation method for you.

Who is an ideal candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is ideal for people who have dental anxiety or phobia, those who need a large amount of dental work done, people with sensitive teeth, and those who find it difficult to sit still in the dentist's chair. It's also a great option for people with a low pain threshold or anyone who has had traumatic dental experiences in the past. However, the final decision will be made after a thorough consultation with Dr. Jonathan Zsambeky.

What types of Sedation are used in dentistry?

There are several types of sedation used in dentistry. These include:

Inhaled Minimal Sedation: You breathe nitrous oxide, also known as "laughing gas," combined with oxygen through a mask that's placed over your nose. The gas helps you relax and wears off quickly.

Oral Sedation: This can range from minimal to moderate, depending on the dose given. You'll take a pill that makes you drowsy, although you'll still be awake.

IV Sedation: You receive the sedative drug through a vein, so it goes to work more quickly. This method allows the dentist to continually adjust the level of sedation.

Deep Sedation and General Anesthesia: You'll get medications that will make you either almost unconscious or totally unconscious during the dental procedure.

At Zsambeky, Chaney & Associates, we'll discuss the best option for you based on the nature of the dental procedure and your level of anxiety.
